I know James very much enjoyed his time at HCS where he made a number of life-long friends, in particular, Graham Lyke, Tom Goodwin and Paul Tomlinson. He also took part in many school activities, principally playing in the first rugby XV at every age group through the school, a number of school plays and one of the first (if not the first) school ski trips to Ishgl in Austria.After leaving school, James studied at Birmingham University where he obtained a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering in 1972 before joining what was then British Leyland, subsequently to become Jaguar Land Rover. He spent a long and happy career at Jaguar Land Rover in a variety of roles before retiring about eight years ago.Shortly after leaving University, James met and married Sue with whom he had three delightful and high-achieving children, Lottie, Rosie and Fergus. Lottie recently obtained a PhD in Educational Psychology at Bath University and now works as a counsellor at the College Alpin Beau Soleil in Switzerland; Rosie captained the Great Britain women's water polo team at the London Olympics in 2012 and now teaches at King Edward's school in Birmingham; and Fergus is an A&E consultant living in Perth in Western Australia. James is survived by Sue and all of his children – and now five (shortly to be six) grandchildren.Throughout his life, James retained the love he developed at school for rugby. On arrival in Birmingham he joined Moseley rugby club for whom he then played for more than 20 years before retiring to the ranks of the committees that are the lifeblood of rugby clubs. Not only did he derive years of pleasure and friendship from his association with Moseley rugby club, he even bought a house in the same road as the club and his daughter, Rosie, met her husband at the club.James' ashes were scattered on one of his favourite stretches of the River Wye at Hampton Bishop in a simple ceremony involving close family and friends on 25 June 2024 on what was otherwise one of the most perfect Herefordshire summer days imaginable.Tim Morris (1967-73) Brother
