Leavers of 1983 Reunion
Looking at the dining hall I found I could picture the trays of Manchester tart that were on the menu forty or more years ago. It was a pleasure to be taken round familiar and unfamiliar school buildings by Helen Pearson on our 1983 leavers reunion. Much was the same though perhaps with fresher paint but much too, including the many science labs, had been brought right up to date. It was a puzzle to recall the structure of the old Big School and Library but the modern versions are much more airy and light. People matter most and the greatest pleasure was to recognise and reconnect. Even Mr Dunne kindly stepped in for a chat. Somehow it was reassuring to be meeting up in the place we once knew each other, and, trekking along the echoey corridors and staircases of School House, to hear and see ourselves again as we were, banging a door, settling into surely ancient chairs and even completing the odd bit of Latin or Biology homework.Catherine Christie
